Beach House, Sussex

“For its owners, this house may well be, as my taxi driver insisted, the best place to live in England.”

Elfreda Pownell, Sunday Telegraph Magazine

Project Description:

The inspiration for this new, single storey glass pavilion was a picnic on the beach under a large sun-shade. The folding glass walls can be cleared away to allow unobstructed views combined with a cool on shore breeze.

Flush thresholds let the interior flow uninterrupted through the heart of the house, and the casually minimal design eliminates much of the clutter of daily living. Materials are natural and draw on the palette of muted colours on the pebble beach.

The remainder of the scheme takes up a courtyard form with three bedrooms enclosing a carefully proportioned walled garden.
