This important Grade II Listed House in the South Downs is a fascinating mix of original 1700s downland cottage and the various modifications undertaken over the 300 years of the building’s life, one of the most significant being a handsome 1930s extension.
Our award winning architects were commissioned to seek planning permission and Listed Building Consent for this Listed House South Downs project; a complete refurbishment scheme which also involved the reconstruction of a kitchen extension crowned with a new lantern light. The team also restored the original integrity of the 1930s double height sun room by removing a poorly inserted floor, returning the space to the generous proportions its designers intended.
As Sussex architects with long experience of the county’s historic building stock, we gave careful consideration to the restoration of the older parts of the property, ensuring that the history of the building remains clearly legible, with each period of its evolution allowed to speak for itself. The consolidation of areas in a poor state of repair will secure the future of the property as a much loved home for its new owners, and see this remarkable downland cottage into its fourth century.
