The inspiration for this Beach House in West Sussex was a picnic on the beach under a large sun-shade. The folding glass walls can be swept away to allow unobstructed views combined with a cool on-shore breeze.
Flush thresholds let the interior flow uninterrupted through the heart of the house, and the casually minimal design eliminates much of the clutter of daily living. Natural materials complement the colours of the pebble beach.
The remainder of the scheme takes up a courtyard form with three bedrooms enclosing a carefully proportioned walled garden.
Pagham Beach House won a Civic Trust Award in 2003 and a Sussex Design and Sustainability Award in 2005.
